GC Youth Forum 2018!

What is Youth Forum?

Youth Forum is a unique event in the life of the United Church of Canada, engaging youth delegates in exploring United Church identity and connection and contributing their learning and perspectives to the work of the General Council in meaningful ways.

Who is it for? For youth ages 15-18 (by August 30, 2017).

Youth Forum Process:  Manitou Conference Executive will select five interested and motivated youth to attend the National Youth Forum Winter Gathering at Five Oaks Centre in Paris, Ontario. Those youth delegates will then further select one full commissioner and one alternate to represent Manitou Conference at the 43nd General Council in Oshawa, ON. Youth Forum Commissioners will be employed throughout the summer by the General Council to consult with youth while completing a national pilgrimage; as commissioners, they are empowered to speak and vote at General Council, and so must be members of the United Church of Canada. Alternates will also attend the 43nd General Council.

How do I apply?  Complete an application form available from your minister, youth minister or online here.  Applications must be submitted to Manitou Conference BY NOVEMBER 10.

Niagara Youth Festival 2017!

Come and join on a weekend of fun, worship and learning with youth across Ontario.  The Niagara Youth Festival 2017 is again being held in… you guessed it… Niagara Falls, Ontario.  You have the opportunity to engage in workshops, a Coffee House, food and snacks (who doesn’t LOVE food and snacks).  Here is your chance to explore Niagara Falls too!

Workshop choices this year are full of activities to explore, great discussions and lots of fun things to learn. Our speakers are Dr. Amanda Drury and Kofi Hope and they are both amazing! But let’s not forget about Worship… Worship will be lit as we are being led again by Pat Morrison!

Dr. Amanda Drury is an assistant professor or practical theology at Indiana Wesleyan University. She has a special interest in youth ministry and has written a book called, Saying is believing: the Necessity of Testimony in Adolescent Spiritual Development.

Kofi Hope is a well-known United Church leader.  Kofi is a Rhodes Scholar with a Doctor of Philosophy in Politics, a community activist, and a youth advocate. He has over 10 years of experience in designing, managing, implementing, and raising funds for community-based programs and is an accomplished public speaker.  Kofi is the Managing Director of Community Empowering Enterprises (CEE), a new initiative funded by the Youth Challenge Fund that is tasked with promoting social enterprises that will benefit Afro-Diasporic, racialized, and criminalized youth in Toronto’s priority neighbourhoods.

Pat Morrison who masterminds The Swell in London Conference will be leading Worship!  Worship is loud, engaging and gets youth standing on the pews. We worship together on Friday evening, Saturday morning and join with the Silver Spire congregation on Sunday morning.
